Welcome to 2023. We hope you have had a good start to the year and have big plans for adventures this year.
2023 has started off poorly for Gunuma unfortunately – the fire alarm and an emergency services call out was triggered when toast burnt in the kitchen and the overhead fans weren’t on. Please remember that fans must always be on when cooking in the kitchen, and members are responsible for their guests in ensuring they know this requirement. The lodge can be charged for emergency call outs and this charge will be passed on to members if necessary.
Booking rules and booking rounds 2023
Booking rules for 2023 can be found here. Please read this document thoroughly prior to booking for the 2023 season.
One major change to the booking rules for 2023 is related to booking outside of the high season. Bookings can now be made 6 months in advance apart from the winter season.
The cancellation procedures have also changed. Please read the booking rules for details.
Bookings for the 2023 ski season are open on the following dates (see booking rules for details):
ROUND 1 – Sunday 23rd April from 10am
ROUND 2 – Sunday 30th April from 10am
ROUND 3 – Sunday 7th May from 10am
ROUND 4 – Sunday 14th May from 10am
Please remember that all bookings must be sponsored by a member, both for individual bookings and group bookings.
Testing of the booking system will be happening intermittently over the next 6 weeks, which means you may see bookings appear and disappear in the winter months. Please do not be concerned that bookings are open – this is necessary testing to make the 2023 booking process as smooth as possible.
Inviting guests to Gunuma
Members are reminded that they are responsible for their guests during their stay at Gunuma. This includes passing on the booking confirmation email, ensuring they know the procedures related to rubbish, using the kitchen and overhead fans, and securing the lodge and closing and locking fire doors. There have been several incidents at the lodge in recent months related to unaccompanied and accompanied guests, and for Gunuma to continue operating well all people staying need to be aware of the rules and procedures.
2023 work parties
There are currently no work parties scheduled for 2023 as we still do not have a maintenance manager. An initial work party will hopefully be organised for the weekend of the 17th of February to complete some landscaping, and assess the urgent maintenance tasks required for opening for the ski season.
Please consider volunteering for this work party, and if you are able to run this work part please contact Peter Rodda (president) via email.
The lodge is missing some vital supplies including garbage bags. The committee is asking for someone able to purchase 80L black plastic bags and 80L clear plastic bags from Costco and take them up to the lodge if they are going on the long weekend. Reimbursement is available through the treasurer if receipts are retained. Please contact Kathryn (communications officer) via email if you are able to help.
Winter house managers (WHM) for 2023
Expressions of interest applications are being sought from any member who is interested in performing the duties of Winter House Manager (WHM) during the 2023 Ski Season. More information about the position description, application process and duties can be found here. Advertising will commence in February with a similar process to previous years – interested members are required to submit a written an expression of Interest Application to the lodge Vice President Geoff Jones and Membership secretary Paul Giugni.
Minutes from the 2022 AGM and November and December committee meetings are now available on this page.
